Transponder in steering column. Found out today from AUDI service that the reason my 2005 A6 will not start is that the key is not being recognized by ba security transponder in the steering column. Its not the key its acftually the transponder that is the issue, but they cannot replace the part, but instead must replace the entire steering column.

I just replaced the original battery in my 2006 A6 Avant (build late 2005) with an Audi absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery, P/N 000-915-105-CE, which is made by Varta. I followed the Bentley Repair Manual directions to code the battery to the power management system, so there are no issues.

Check the spark plug gap. Next, insert the new ignition coils into the engine wells until they snap into place. Plug the electrical harness plugs into the ignition coils. Tighten down the Torx screw to the harness. Then reconnect the eight bottom plugs of the harness. Replace the engine cover and reconnect the battery.
